Before You Book
Common questions.
New to this? Good. Here’s what first-timers ask most. Still unsure — just call or text Joe.
Do I need to own a gun to take a class?
[ Confirm with Joe. ] Most students bring their own handgun. If you don’t have one yet, contact Joe before booking — he can advise on rentals or loaners for the class.
I’ve never fired a gun before. Is that okay?
Absolutely — Defensive Pistol 1 is built for exactly that. No experience is required. Joe starts with safety and fundamentals and brings you up at your pace, in a small group.
What should I bring?
A handgun, a proper holster, ear and eye protection, at least 200 rounds (no steel-case), 2–3 magazines, and weather-appropriate clothing. Each class page lists its exact gear requirements. Water, snacks, and a notebook help too.
Where are the classes held?
At real ranges in Southern California — Prado Olympic Shooting Park in Chino and Burro Canyon Shooting Park in Azusa. Your class date shows which range, and you’ll get directions in your confirmation.
Do I need a CCW permit already for the CCW class?
[ Confirm exact wording with Joe — California-specific. ] The CCW Tactics & Skills course covers concealed-carry preparation and real-world application. Contact Joe to confirm what the course qualifies you for based on your county.
How do deposits and cancellations work?
[ Confirm with Joe. ] You can reserve a seat with a deposit or pay in full at booking. Cancellation and refund terms will be listed at checkout and in your confirmation email.
Is there an age requirement?
Classes are for ages 18 and up. If you have a younger shooter in mind, reach out to Joe about private options.
Can I train privately or bring a group?
Yes. Friends & Family private and semi-private training is available for groups of 1–4, scheduled around you, with per-person pricing that drops as the group grows. Get in touch to set it up.
Still have a question?
Text or call Joe directly — he’d rather you ask than guess.
